Red Notice 2 and 3 are a real possibility on Netflix and would most likely run sequentially, according to director Rawson Marshall Thurber.
Red notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber says part 2 and part 3 are a real possibility and would likely be shot one after the other. Thurber wrote and directed the film, with Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. Red notice just debuted on Netflix, earning it the title of biggest opening day for the streamer, amassing a total watch time of 148 million hours to date.
Thurber began his career in Hollywood with the hit comedy Dodgeball, with Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller. He would go on to direct another hit comedy, We are the Millers, with Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston, before boarding The Rock train with Central intelligence, with Kevin Hart. He followed that up with Dwayne Johnson’s Die-Hard-esque Skyscraper, and now, the success of Netflix Red notice. He’s slated to tackle the Tom Clancy thriller, The division, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain.
Talking with THR, who perused his filmography asking about the sequel’s potential, Thurber seemed more optimistic about a sequel. Red notice above all others. The director said he thinks it is “a real possibility” and when he posed with the rumor that two plus three would shoot at each other, Thurber said he was the “only responsible thing” to film them that way. Read his full quote below:
“If we were to do a sequel, the only responsible thing would be to do two and three in a row. It’s such a big production, and if you can put it together once, it’ll be better for everyone. Including for my mental health.”
All three Red notice The stars are busy stars with a bunch of stacked projects, so it may take a while to get more Red Notice behind the cameras. Johnson is releasing Black Adam next year and is preparing to star in the Red one for Amazon and director Jake Kasdan. Reynolds just finished The Adam project And humorous and is taking a little break between projects. Gadot is currently shooting the spy thriller Heart of stone and has two Patty Jenkins projects in line with Cleopatra And Wonder Woman 3. She is also poised to play the Evil Queen in the live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for Disney.
While the reviews of the critics lean on the negative for Red notice, the power of the stars alone seems to have taken him to the top of the Netflix charts. That alone might deserve a sequel (or two), and it wouldn’t be the first Netflix Original film to get the green light for the sequel. by Chris Hemsworth Extraction and Charlize Theron The Old Guard, among others, are getting sequels on the streamer, so it’s not beyond the means that Red notice would follow suit. For critics (and fans) who have been disappointed, perhaps any subsequent rumors will correct some of the errors and improve the shortcomings of the first film.
