Akshay Kumar’s protagonist who came out a few weeks ago has been doing roaring business. However, it appears that the producers and incidentally also the distributors of the Reliance Entertainment movie have had problems with Carnival Cinemas. In fact, the creators of Sooryavanshi they stopped showing the film from all Carnival properties starting yesterday – Saturday November 20.
The reason for this sudden decision is apparently the non-payment of Carnival’s dues against the distribution dues. As agreed, directives have been issued to all multiplex chains to transfer the distributor quota to Reliance Entertainment twice a week, one on Monday for weekend collections and one on Friday for weekday collections. But, according to Reliance, the Carnival chain is in default with payment for the last four days of the first week. Following that, the chain later failed to pay its second weekend and second week dues, which prompted Reliance Entertainment to withdraw the film from Carnival’s properties.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the Carnival chain has owed Reliance Entertainment. According to the production-distribution company, the chain owed them around Rs. 1.35 cr., Even before the pandemic hit. But the two sides reached a consensus to settle the payments in due time. As for Sooryavanshi, the film was released and screened at 66 Carnival Cinemas properties, while the others have yet to come out. According to sources close to Bollywood Hungama, Carnival had recorded NET collections of approx. 5.44 cr. for week 1 and approx. 1.9 cm. during Week 2.
According to reports, the Punjabi film is also reported Honsla Rakh was discontinued from Carnival properties after the chain defaulted on the transfer of the distribution stake. This isn’t the first time Carnival has run into problems. In September 2021, some employees shouted the scandal over unpaid debt and unprofessional conduct and exposed how employees were forced to sell milk and vegetables.
According to the Economic Times report, the company’s current debt is more than Rs. 700 crore and cited a source that tried to grow very fast, even though it never had the financial power like PVR, INOX or Cinepolis.
Since yesterday [Day 16], the protagonist of Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif directed by Rohit Shetty has collected approx. Rs. 173.26 cr. at the Indian box office.
According to Reliance Entertainment, the Sooryavanshi are resumed from today on all the properties of the Carnival following the resolution of the dispute.
