The 2021 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is currently underway in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Initially, the ICC Champions Trophy would take place in 2021. However, the International Cricket Council changed it to T20 World Cup so that more teams can play. Only the top eight teams participate in the Champions Trophy.
Chris Tetley, ICC head of events, had She said: “The decision to replace the Champions Trophy with a T20 World Cup in 2021 was driven by our commitment to global growth and using the T20 as our vehicle to do so. Obviously this presented us with a one-off qualification challenge ”.
