“It was kind of something I’ve wanted for a while, a role like this… Lan is an incredibly inspiring and powerful character. It’s very different from – actually, the characters I’ve played in the past, who I’ve loved a lot… But it was definitely a step outside the box for me. And the job itself had so many challenges surrounding it. We were just talking about the idea of fear. I think as you get older in life, things that scare you can mean good things … It was something that scared me a lot, in a good way, the challenges of the character’s physicality and movement around the world; the fanbase that existed, and how much responsibility there was in that; all these challenges, I think, have really thrilled me … That was why I chose to do it. “
The wheel of time is making its mark as one of Amazon’s biggest titles of the year. Showrunner Rafe Judkins recently admitted asking David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the creators of game of Thrones, for advice on how to adapt a pre-made fantasy world. The wheel of time Season 1 made some changes to the source material to make viewing more fluid, but its high production value and scenic Eastern European locations proved very watchable for new viewers during the first three episodes.
Fans of the books and new fans alike have entered the magical new world with keen interest, as the Amazon show debuted earlier this month. Henney’s character is one of many interesting personalities in the fantasy series, and her emotional connection with Pike’s Moiraine will keep viewers intrigued into the show’s future. Since when The wheel of time season 2 has already been confirmed, Henney’s Lan will only have more time to shine in the future.
