Wicked’s next film stars Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the two lead roles in the highly anticipated film adaptation.
Universal’s upcoming film adaptation of the classic Broadway musical, Evil, has now cast Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the two main roles. Grande and Erivo, have both made a name for themselves with their extraordinary acting and singing talents. Both have roots in theater, with Grande launching her teenage career after starring in the Broadway musical 13 in 2008. Grande went on to star in two Nickelodeon series before becoming the Grammy Award-winning mega-star he is now. Erivo’s career took off after playing the role of Celie in Broadway’s The purple color, a role that earned her both a Tony and a Grammy.
Bringing the beloved musical to the screen has been a huge and thwarted effort as Universal first announced its plans for the film way back in 2004. Originally slated for first time in 2019, the Evil The film has experienced several delays since then, with June 2022 scheduled as the official production start date. It was finally announced earlier this year that Jon M. Chu (Crazy and rich Asians, in the heights) would take over as director after Stephen Daldry left the project in 2020.
Now, a major new update for the highly anticipated film has arrived as Grande is ready to star in Evil as Glinda alongside Erivo as Elphaba. Director Jon M. Chu was the first to break the news of the casting with a Twitter announcement. Check out Chu’s post below:
